All MPA students complete a shared core of 15 credit hours plus 6 hours of courses in either the Public Management or Nonprofit Management tracks. The remaining 21 hours consist of electives and a capstone project that can be tailored to your interests and career goals.
Choose six elective courses to fashion your own specialization. Whether you want to master labor relations, navigate government technology, or lead with a focus on diversity and equity, you can choose from a wide range of topics across SPAA and Rutgers.
The MPA capstone is your opportunity to take everything you’ve learned and apply it directly to the real-world issues you care about most. Whether you want to influence local policy or lead a major nonprofit, this project turns your education into a powerful asset for your career. You’ll develop either a research paper or a professional portfolio, (often in the form of a website) showcasing your mastery of public policy and administration.
