What You’ll Learn

In the online Master of Social Work program, you’ll complete a clinical specialization gaining comprehensive instruction in assessment, intervention, and evaluation to enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and groups. You’ll gain valuable first-hand insight and experience through two required field education placements, totaling 1,125 hours of field work. You may also tailor your curriculum with global study options and the unique Violence Against Women and Children certificate.

Typically, the program is completed in three years, however, if you’ve earned a baccalaureate degree in social work from an undergraduate program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), you may enter the advanced standing program. The advanced standing program is completed in four semesters and includes 885 hours of field work.

Completing the Rutgers Online Master of Social Work prepares students for the licensed profession of social work. Your advanced degree can lead to new career opportunities in clinical settings, child welfare, education, hospitals, mental health, and much more. You can also use your experience to pursue a career in social work policy and management, or continue your education at the doctorate level.
